'Don't Swallow My Heart, Alligator Girl!' (Portuguese: Não Devore Meu Coração) is a Brazilian drama film directed by Felipe Bragança. It premiered in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition section of the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, and was nominated for the Grand Jury prize. Music / soundtrack by Baris Akardere.
The film was nominated for a Crystal Bear (Generation 14+) at Berlin International Film Festival, and selected for São Paulo Int. Film Festival, Toulouse Latin America Film Festival, Stockholm Int. Film Festival, Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival and New Zealand Int. Film Festival. The film ran in cinema's internationally and was shown on national television in Brasil.
On the turbulent border between Brazil and Paraguay there is a war brewing between rival gangs. Amongst the devastation, a young boy, Joca falls in love with indigenous-Paraguayan girl Basano. He must face the violent region's war-torn past and the secrets of his elder brother Fernando, a motorcycle cowboy, in order to conquer her love. A magical tale of impossible love and adventure in this land full of memories of colonial wars and indigenous genocide.
